Ted Turner Starts Sky Bashing
NEW YORK, New York, USA, 97/03/18 (SHOPTALK) -- Time Warner Inc. vice
chairman Ted Turner wasted no time Monday trying to enlist industry support
for his ongoing feud with News Corp. chairman Rupert Murdoch. Cable
executives said yesterday that Turner used the annual cable convention
meeting as a forum to air gripes about Murdoch who, since announcing last
month that he would launch Sky satellite television service and
subsequently bury cable operators, has become a lot less popular among them.

Cable operators, said Turner, "are juiced up already. They don't need
me." Sources said, however, that Turner has consistently encouraged
backlashes toward News Corp. and his efforts seem to be successful. Many
cable operators said, even before the convention, that they would block
Murdoch's expansion in cable by refusing to carry new channels or expand
exiting ones like Fox News and fX.
