Digital TV Hot In Spain
MADRID, Spain, 96/09/06 (TS) -- Spain's Sogecable has reached an agreement
with DirecTV to establish a digital TV package for the Spain and Latin
America, according to reports. Sogecable is owned by Promotora de
Informaciones SA, France's Canal Plus, Banco Bilbao Vizcaya and Grupo March.

DirecTV already operates a digital package for Latin America and the
agreement is understood to bring the service to Europe and provide some
extra European programming for the Latin American service.

It was also reported, in the Wall Street Journal, that Television Espanola
(TVE) of Spain and Mexico's Grupo Televisa of Mexico are in talks to jointly
operate a digital TV package for Spain and Latin America. The venture would
team two of the world's largest Spanish language program producers. Televisa
already broadcasts its Galavision service to Spain via the Astra satellite.

Adding further to the suddenly hot Spanish TV market, Germany's Kirch
Group and Telefonica de Espana SA are considering launching a digital TV
service to the southern European nation. Kirch just launched its DF-1
digital service to Germany.
