---------- Blinded by the Sun
(part source: What Satellite TV)

Tomorrow marks the start of the dreaded annual solar outages period.
Every year or so, as the Earth rotates, all satellites come directly
between the Earth and the Sun, causing a brief outage of power from the
satellite for about 3 or 4 minutes. This phenomenon catches ALL
satellites in geostationary orbit in the Clarke Belt, and is the plague
of the satellite TV broadcasting industry. In case you want to catch
this crazy heatwave, or need to know when to switch over to terrestrial,
here are the outage times for some major satellites:
DFS Kopernikus 2 - 28,5 east: 09.39
Astra - 19,2 east: 10.16
Eutelsat II-F1/HotBird - 13 east: 10.43
Intelsat 707 - 1 west: 11.48
Intelsat 803 - 27,5 degrees west: 13.44
PanAmSat 1 - 45 west: 14.59
So get yer sunglasses out, it all happens tomorrow!
