Hot Bird Viewing Figures Rise
PARIS, France, 97/09/08 (TS) -- Eutelsat says more people than ever are
tuning into broadcasts from its Hot Bird position at 13 degrees East over
Europe. Nearly 65 million homes in 38 countries in Europe, North Africa and
the near Middle East have access to the satellite, said Eutelsat.

According to the studies, by mid-1997, of the 86.9m homes connected to a
cable or community network or equipped for direct-to-home (DTH) reception,
64.1million, or nearly 75 percent, are receiving channels broadcast from 13
degrees East.
The new figures represent a growth of 4 million homes over figures released
by Eutelsat in mid-1996. The strongest expansion was in DTH and community
reception which increased by nearly 30 per cent (from 12.3m homes in 1996
to 15.8m homes in 1997), far outstripping overall satellite reception which
grew by 13.5 per cent (from 30.3m homes in 1996 to 34.4m homes in 1997).
