Sony Launches New TV Channel
  TOKYO, Japan, 97/08/21 (TS) -- Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) will
launch a new Pan-Asian satellite delivered service in the Fall of this
year, it was announced by Jon Feltheimer, president of the Columbia TriStar
Television Group and executive vice president of SPE.

  The AXN channel will launch on September 21st across Asia. By early next
year, AXN will broadcast four customized feeds covering Taiwan, the
Philippines, Thailand, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and Japan.
AXN, the only Pan-Asian channel branded and dedicated to the
action/adventure genre, will offer a wide variety of action/adventure
feature films, series and extreme sports.

  The 24-hour-a-day service, which will feature top Hollywood and
international action/adventure product, will be tailored to the local
market with acquired Asian movies, series and animation; local "VJ" hosts;
locally produced action sports; and live-action game programming.  Most
non-indigenous programming will be dubbed or subtitled into the local
language. AXN's programming line-up will include product from SPE's filmed
entertainment library of over 3,500 feature films and more than 30,000
episodes of television series as well as more than 1,200 hours of acquired
action movies, series and extreme sports programs.

  AXN will originate service from Sony Pictures Entertainment's Singapore
uplink facility and will launch on the Apstar 1A satellite using Scientific
Atlanta's digital compression system.
