MCA Signs German TV Deals
LOS ANGELES, California, USA, 96/07/31 (TS) -- MCA announced Tuesday that
is has signed two deals with German TV networks for its programming, further
adding to the competition in the market.

The Hollywood based company signed a long term production and output
agreement with RTL Television worth $1.5 billion. At the same time it signed
a deal for pay television rights to the Kirch Group valued at more than $1
billion.

The Kirch Group recently launched Germany's first digital TV package,
DF-1, ahead of a competing package from Bertelsmann. That company is one of
the largest shareholders in RTL, along with Compagnie Luxembourgeoise de
Telediffusion (CLT) of Luxembourg.

The deals seem to underpin what RTL has been saying about digital TV. The
company has reacted negatively to digital television, which almost certainly
would be pay based, and thus the signing of commercial TV rights runs along
with this idea.

In the past few months both Paramount and Warner Bros. have signed similar
pay TV deals with the Kirch Group.
