Subject: VC1 0B card Chan-ID's
From: johntayl@emarkt.com (Johnathan Taylor)

Below is almost all the current channel-ident data. The only one lacking is
Trouble channel as each time I looked it was sending Bravo OSD message and
ID code.

Q: does the channel ID part of the crypto-packet take any part in the actual
decryption process or is it included in the packet checksum? If not then a
simple PIC filter could be knocked up to convert all channel ID data to say
TV-X or playboy and just subscribe to either of those for 5 or 6 ukp a month
and get the whole lot for something nearer to their real value.

NOTE: As can be seen below that individual channels in Group 1 & 5 ARE
individualy addresable, then why can't Sky get of their arses and do the
same for the multichannel package as each channel is given a unique ID in
most cases. That way you could subscribe only to what YOU want and not be
forced into subsidising channels that you have no interest in. It would
certainly be more popular with existing subscribers and current
non-subscribers. Of course that would mean that Sky could no longer justify
unilateraly hiking prices way above the national rate of inflation when they
add a couple of new channels each year.

Channel Group ID is bits 0-3 of byte 4 in the 0x74 crypt packet
Group sub-ID is byte 5 of the same packet and apears bit-mapped with only a
couple of exceptions that use more than one bit at a time.

Group 0x?1 (Premium Sky channels)
0x80 Sky Movies
0x40 The Movie Channel
0x20 Sky Movies Gold
0x10 Sky Sports
0x08 Sky Sports 2
0x04 Disney
0x02 Spare
0x01 Spare

Group 0x?2 (Multichannel package)
0x80 Sky One
0x40 Sky Two
0x20 TP47 History/SciFi/Travel/Soap
0x10 Nickelodeon
0x08 Paramount
0x04 Astra EBN slot
0x02 Fox Kids
0x01 Spare

Group 0x?3 (More Multichannels)
0x80 UK Gold
0x40 UK Living
0x20 MTV
0x10 VH1
0x08 Spare
0x04 Spare
0x02 Spare
0x01 Spare

Group 0x?4 (More Multichannels)
0x80 Discovery
0x40 Bravo
0x20 CMT
0x10 Challenge TV
0x08 Spare (probably trouble?)
0x04 TCC
0x02 Weather channel
0x01 Sky Sports 3

Group 0x?5 (Alternative Fringe channels)
0x80 Zee TV
0x40 TV-X Fantasy
0x20 Playboy TV
0x10 The Racing Channel
0x08 Spare
0x04 Spare
0x02 Spare
0x01 Spare

Group 0x?C (Granada stuff plus misc sky stuff)
0xFF Sky News/QVC/CCE (Generally anything clear or softscrambled)
0x80 Good Life
0x40 Spare
0x20 Talk TV
0x10 The Computer Channel
0x08 Spare
0x04 Spare
0x02 Men & Motors/Granada plus
0x01 all crypted promo channels

Channel 5 has no meaningful data-stream as it only resets the card and does
one command then just leaves the card powered up but with no comunication
happening. All it requires is legal responses to those two stimuli and then
you have both 5v and the clk avialable to play with. (Useful for powering
MK11 add-on)
NOTE: The above method is also used by German VH-1 for those without 1D
capability.

Maybe these channel-ID's can be incorporated into the next season VCL player
also until a true season0b comes out how about modifying voyager to generate
a random number answer to the 74 crypto packet instead of the current null
answer, never know it could get lucky;-)
