PAS 1R will be launched with Ariane 5 in 1999, featuring 36 Ku- and 36 C
transponder, replacing PAS 1 at 45 West.

ITALIAN EXPANSION

The increase in offer of Italian satellite TV channels is expected to
continue all throughout 1998. Already the Italian public broadcaster RAI
has confirmed the launch of 4 new thematic channels which will be
transmitted in digital mode but will not be scrambled. They will include
a 24 hour a day news channel, sports channel, regional news channel as
well as a "multi-ethnic" channel which is supposed to reflect the ethnic
diversity present in Italy. The new channels are set to join the already
existing thematic channels RAISat 1-3 and RAISat Nettuno.

The major Italian private TV broadcaster Mediaset is also preparing to
enter the digital market. On March 8th, they will launch a new service
called the Happy Channel. It will be a thematic channel entirely devoted
(the name says it all!) to humour and the schedule will be made up of
Italian and foreign sitcoms, theater and cabaret. The director of
Mediaset's thematic channels Carlo Vetrugno confirmed that they hard at
work on five new channels, some of which will launch also during 1998.

The government of Turkey has approved the procurement of the Turksat 2A
communications satellite from Aerospatiale Espace & Defense, of Paris,
France. Total cost of the turn-key system, including ground segment and
insurance, is estimated at about US$400 million. Turksat 2A, to be
launched in mid-to-late 1999, will carry 32 Ku-band transponders and be
co-located with Turksat 1C, at 42 East. Capacities will be marketed by
Eurasiaspace, a Monaco-based joint venture of Aerospatiale and Turk
Telecom.

ZTV - ZheJiang TV (China) started today on 3.760 GHz, H, PAL, with audio
on 6.60 MHz, and a TeleText service: CCST.
A radio channel is featured on the audio subcarrier 8.10 MHz named
"ZheJiang ren min guang bo dian tai", which in the translation means
"People's Radio Broadcast from ZheJiang".
