Due to the lack of interesting transponder news for the Middle East,
here an overview of the current ART programming content, exerpted from
their internet pages, with a few additional services.

OVERVIEW

Arab Radio & Television currently broadcasts 9 channels. These provide a
whole range of Arabic entertainment to our viewers.

ART 1: The Variety Channel
Inaugurated on October 15th, 1993, was the first to start transmission
within the A.R.T. network. This channel is considered a 24 hour summit
for Arab cultures. It provides viewers with a wide variety of
educational and cultural programs, theatre comedies, and arabic and
international serials. It also features several outstanding A.R.T.
productions, such as 'Ya Hala', 'Ma'a Hamdy Kandil', 'Bank 
El-Ma'aloumat', 'Leila Arabia', and many others. 

ART 2: The Sports Channel
Is where sports lovers find their pleasure. A world of championships,
competitions, and coverage of the most important sports events. Being
the only specialized 24-hour sports channel in the Middle East, it has
provided the Arab world with a unique service since November 16th, 1993.
The Sports Channel features live coverage of the most important Arab and
international leagues, championships, and other sporting events. It also
features the daily Sports News including reports from all over the Arab
world. 

ART3: The Children's Channel
Or 'Colors' as it's slogan is, overwhelms children with stories,
education, pleasure, and entertainment. Starting at 5.00 GMT every
morning and on until 19.00 GMT, it assures a constant stream of
non-violent educational entertainment throughout the day. 

ART 4: The Movie Channel
A world of cinema, with a wide range of the best Arabic and
international movies, weeks featuring the most famous actos and
directors, specialized programs like 'Alam El-Cinema' (The World of
Cinema), 'El Meshakhasateya' (The Actors) and 'Master Scene'. The Movie
Channel has been a 24 hour-a-day celebration of cinema since it's
inauguration in January 1994. 

ART 5: The Music Channel
One of the most popular channels in the Arab world, and, in fact, the
only Arabic music channel in the world, specializes in all kinds of
Arabic music. Created on July 21st, 1994, it is now well known for
airing the latest Arabic video clips, concerts and festivals. This
pioneering channel is also famous fot it's daily 'Music News' and
internal productions like 'Studio El-Moshahideen', 'Waraa El-Adwa'a',
and 'Galset Tarab'. 

A.R.T. Shopping
Started on the 21st of January 1996, A.R.T. Shopping provides a unique
service for Arab audiences. It offers a wide choice of the latest
products from all over the world, comprehensive demonstrations of these
products, easy purchasing, and the comfort of buying without leaving
home.

A.R.T.
Inaugurated on the 1st of September 1996, this channel is of a highly
promotional nature as it will be the only A.R.T.channel to remain clear
in the Middle East and North Africa. Through it, audiences will get to
know the A.R.T.network since it's programming comes from all
A.R.T.channels - showcasing programs and events aired earlier on the
coded channels. It could be considered the answer to the question "What
is Arab Radio & Television?".

A.R.T. Europe
Keeps Arabs residing in Europe in constant contact with their homelands,
language, cultures, and traditions. This channel's contents are a mixed
bag of the best of all, including theatre plays, movies, songs, sports
events, talk shows, and programs through which expatriots get in touch
with the latest events and issues involving the Arab world.

A.R.T. America
A 24 hour-a-day link with the Arab world for inhabitants of the far away
continents of America. It is a view over the Arab world, carrying the
latest events and the best of A.R.T.productions. A.R.T. America also
provides those born far from their homes with knowledge of thier native
cultures,traditions, and arts. Launched 4th of March, 1996 and to South
America 21st of August, 1996.
