Satellite Espionage

Landes. Nimm z.B. the Irak.

Translation:
After reading all your stories about satellite espionage, I wonder how to
get all the information about telecommunication of a certain country. Take
f.i. Iraq. Could tell us something, or do we have to wait for a book with
all insider information?

Dr.Dish:
Kein Verleger=kein Buch.

Translation:
No publisher=no book. Letīs take the Iraq. First, you need all available
Earth-Station Manuals of the satellite providers. Iraq is a quite simple
case, because we have to deal with only two earthstations: DUJAIL 1 and 2,
both working in the c-band. A third station Baghdad-1 is a mobile UN-station
and to us of no importance. Dujail-1 transmitts via INTELSAT 605 and uses
video, FDM-FM, IDR and TDMA. We will choose FDM, because it is easy to
receive and most telephone traffic is running here. Dujail-2 goes via
Intelsat at 1° west and also uses FDM. What you need now, is a friend how
understands arabic and a lot of patience, because you will have to check
each transponders FDM-signals and sort out important things. A lot of
international traffic in voice, fax and data is in the english language and
after a while you get a picture whats happend inside the country and who is
dealing with who.
Please read the law of your own country regarding receiving such signals.
