BIG TROUBLE FOR SMALL STATIONS
- Nickelodeon Germany in danger
mcr Düsseldorf. After the shutdown of the German Weather-Channel in February,
it seems that another special-interest-station is going of the air in Germany.
Children's station Nickelodeon is said to have made losses between 100 and 150
Million D-Marks. Months ago VIACOM (90 Percent owner of Nick) tried to sell
it's share to PRO SIEBEN and NBC, both declined the offer. The agreement would
have forced them, to air almost exclusively VIACOM-Productions, with which
Nickelodeon got bad ratings in the first place.
Up until now stationmanager Bernd Frohnhoff denies any plans to liquidate
Germanys Nickelodeon before the summer. Media-insider have not so many doubts
about Nicks future in Germany.
Other victims of overcrowded cable-networks could include Germanys VH-1,
music-channel ONYX and self-declared women's television tm-3.

PHONE-SEX ADDS ARE OK
- As long as there is no porn involved
mcr Kassel. The regional authorities of German state Hessen see no reason, to
do anything against phone-sex commercials on private television. A local
consumer group has voiced complaints against these sort of commercials. But
authorities wrote: "As long, as there are no pornographic elements involved,
there is nothing to do for us." All German television-networks have
voluntarily banned phone-sex commercials until after midnight.

FIVE MORE YEARS FOR RTL-NEWS CHIEF-EDITOR
- But more work
mcr Cologne. Informationmanager and News Chief-edtior of Europes biggest
commercial Television-station RTL-Television, Hans Mahr (48), has extended his
contract for another five years. He will also act as deputy manager of the
network.

SAT-TIP
- Classic Star Trek on Kanal FEM
Fans Captain Kirk, Bones and Spock - attention. Swedish station Kanal FEM is
showing classic Star Trek again. Every Saturday at 15:50 CET once again the
starship Enterprise is boldly going where no man has gone before. More
information on the characters can be found in Kanal FEMs teletext-service.
